I'm retired so I can go pretty much anytime. Some weekends I work at gun shows in the area but able to schedule in advance.

I didn't grow up hunting, but have taken courses in scavenging plants. I grew up between the Midwest (IA and NE) and FL. Pheasant hunting is very popular in my part of the Midwest, and once I even hit a pheasant with my car, although I've never tried hunting or eating it. I studied biology In college, during which time we regrettably had to kill several types of animals for research purposes. In college I went on a scavenging trip in Central Florida, and ate a rattlesnake that we ran over in our SUV! It was easy to hang over the campfire and cook. It tasted like pork, and the meat flaked right off the bone. The only thing I've caught myself and eaten (besides fish), were lobsters. Some might consider that fishing, but here in Florida we call it bug hunting, lol. I would like to try diving for octopus, since I love eating octopus and squid. You need to carry a special hook to pry them off the rocks, because those things are strong, and all muscle apparently, lol! I have enjoyed trying some wild game over the years. Here in Florida you can get good local gator, turtle, and frog legs, which would be fun to hunt sometime. I do own a kayak and canoe, which I have experience camping out of. I have heard of hunting clubs with land on the Suwannee River, which I love to explore because of all the freshwater springs up there. I would also love to go on a hunt for the invasive Burmese pythons, here in the Everglades, if anyone is interested. It's obviously good to know who you are hunting with in advance, and of course, there is usually more safety in numbers. I tried a Canadian goose where I grew up in Iowa, and found it to be surprisingly rich and fatty, also like pork. In Belize I enjoyed trying some local "bush meat" in a family run restaurant, where I tried stewed venison and gibnut, both of which were well prepared and delicious. I enjoy the taste of venison, but it's easier to find goat on the menu at the Haitian and Jamaican restaurants here in Florida. I think the two meats taste similar. I would enjoy trying deer hunting, but apparently the deer we have here in North Florida are kind of scrawny. Down in Big Pine Key they have the protected Key Deer, which are fun to see. I would also like to try hunting wild boar in the Okeechobee area. I've heard that our boar down here taste like oranges, from all the citrus groves. Apparently some of the barbeque establishments in the Stuart area where I spent time growing up, will process a wild boar for you. Where i live now in Miami, we are overrun by wild peacocks, which are also protected, and up in NC and IA they are often overrun with wild turkeys, apparently. For that reason I would enjoy hunting turkeys, and possibly even trying a peacock, since the two fowl are related.

I am in South East Florida but hunt mostly out of state, I have only done one hog hunt here at hunt club near Okeechobee, it was ok. I would hookup with buddy or join a group for hunt club in northern Florida for whitetail, hog, dove, duck, etc. I prefer public land hunting in Colorado for Elk and Mule deer. I have two labs in training now for dove, duck, and geese, will be ready next year in September. hunt Texas panhandle and southwestern Oklahoma wheat and peanut fields.

I love to bow hunt but since moving to Florida I've let it go. The mosquito's will drag you out of your stand down here and just took all the fun out of it for me. Drinking is in no way offensive to me as long as its back in camp.
